Soon after, he began to regularly perform with Coleman Hawkins and Eddie ‘Lockjaw’ Davis at the clubs on 52nd street.He drifted in and out of a number of bands and jazz groups over the next few years, forming the Miles Davis Nonet in 1948. Davis quit the nonet in 1949, which became extremely successful, and signed with Capitol Records in 1949, remaining active till the end of that year.
