About Hongwu EmperorThe Hongwu Emperor was a 13th century Chinese Emperor, who founded the Ming Dynasty, which reigned over China for 300 years.The Hongwu Emperor was born Zhu Yuanzhang, on October 21, 1328, in Hao Prefecture, now known as Fengyang, in China, to his parents, Zhu Shizhen and Chen Erniang. The family was born in poverty and regularly moved to avoid rent collectors. A plague in 1340 took the lives of his father and brother, and the family was left completely without money.He spent his teenage years in a destitute condition and spent some years in a monastery, but was forced to leave, as the monastery ran short of funds. After spending time on the streets wandering as a beggar, he observed the economic austerity of the locals. He again joined a monastery, but the monastery was attacked by the army.
